This lecture will cover a very important topic of geography, what is elevation and we will discover the highest and lowest elevation in the world as well.

The elevation of a geographical location is its height above or below the fix reference points.
  • Lowest Point:
          The lowest point on land is Dead Sea or Black Sea that is 432.65 m below sea level, situated
           on the borders of Israel , Palestine and Jordan.
  • Deepest Point:
          Mariana trench in Pacific ocean is the deepest point in oceans, it is 10,911m below sea level.

  • Highest Point: The highest point on earth is Mount Everest also known as Chomolungma at the height of 8,848 located in Himalayan range on the borders of Nepal and China.
  • 2nd Highest Point: The second highest peak is K-2 or Godwin Austen at the height of 8,611m located in northern karakoram range on the border of Pakistan and China.
  • 3rd Highest Point: The third highest mountain in the world is Kangchenjunga at 8,586 m on the border of India and Nepal.
  • Highest Self Made Point: The highest self made mountain on earth is Ojos Del Salado at 6,893 m on the border of Chile and Argentina.
  • Highest Lake: The highest lake is Titicaca located in south America in Andes mountains at the elevation of 3,812 m , located on the borders of Bolivia and Peru.
